High School Girls 4×800 Trials

Our first relay of the day, as always, is the HS girls 4×800.  We will have four heats – two for small schools and two for large schools.  The top times will go to tomorrow’s final.

Heat 1 – Kimberly Brown of Manchester JA has opened up a lead after one leg in about 2:19.  At halfway, Manchester leads in 4:41, with St. John of Staten Island in 2nd by about 30 meters.  3rd exchange, about 7:00, Manchester with a large lead.  Their anchor has run a 2:04 (!) earlier in the season.

Manchester (JA) wins in 9:11.33 with the anchor running 2:11, St. John Villa (NY) 2nd fairly far back in 9:34.  As an example of the cold temps, Manchester has run in the low 8:50′s this year in warmer climes.

Heat 2 – Bernards (NJ) leads in 2:19, but Holmwood Tech (JA) has the lead quickly on the 2nd leg.  Holmwood Tech , with a 2:13 2nd leg, leads in 4:33 with Edwin Allen (JA) in 2nd.  Final exchange, 6:52, Holmwood Tech with about 50 meters on Edwin Allen, then about 100 meters back to 3rd place.

Holmwood wins in 9:08, Edwin Allen in 9:13, Garden City (NY) in 9:27.

Heat 3 (large schools) – Ocean Lakes (VA) leads at the first exchange in 2:19.  Ocean Lakes opens up quite a lead with 4:37 at the 2nd exchange . . . the lead is about 70 meters.  3rd exchange, a big lead, 6:57.  Downingtown East is in 2nd, but almost a straightaway behind.

Hunterdon Central (NJ) charges hard and wins in 9:28.  Ocean Lakes 2nd in 9:30.

Heat 4 – Randolph (NJ) leads with a 2:16 lead off.  Brooklyn Boys & Girls in 2nd.  As we move toward the 2nd exchange, it has become a two team race between Randolph and Columbia (NJ).  4:34 at the exchange, with both teams together about 50 meters in front. Columbia [Maplewood] goes into the lead at 6:58.  Columbia wins in 9:24, with North Penn (PA) coming from waaaay back to take 2nd (9:30).
