Pat Schelleberg (Delbarton School, NJ) took the lead just before the half mile and opened up a margin of 15 meters at the bell (3:05) and finished in 4:08.07, to just get under the Penn Relays record of 4:08.13, run last year by Canadian Jeremy Rae.

Sarah Pease of Indiana outlasts Claire Michel of Oregon, winning the College Women’s Steeplechase.  Pease won the Drake Relays steeple last year – and now has a Penn Relays championship as well.  Certainly a very interesting double !

The 116th Penn Relays are underway. The first event, the college women’s 400-meter hurdles, went off ahead of its 10:00am start time. College Athletes of the Meet for Individual Events

Our collegiate athletes of the meet for individual events are Rachel Laurent of LSU and Jeremy Hicks, also of LSU.
Laurent set a meet record with a 13-10 1/2 pole vault clearance, and Hicks won the long jump in 26-3 on his last jump.  Hicks’ mark was #7 All-Time.

College women’s 100-meter hurdles: Seun Adigun (Houston) wins in 12.98. Wind is 0.0, so it’s legal.  Results.
Olympic Development women’s 100-meter hurdles: Nickiesha Wilson goes 12.95 for the victory. Results.

High School Boys 400 Hurdles

Much nicer weather this morning, 56 degrees at 8:50 am, when our first running event, the high school boys 400H, goes off.
Jordan Rispress of Hilliard, Ohio, wins the first heat in 51.89, the eighth best time ever at the Relays.

2009 High School Individual Distance

We have two individual events tonight before out high school girls 4×400 championship, the mile and the 3000m.
Jeremy Rae of Lakeshore (Ontario Canada) has opened up a very large lead at one lap, with an approximate half-mile split of 2:04.  At three laps, Rae still leads, but the field is definitely stalking the leader.

Not surprisingly, from Edwin Allen (JA) is our 2009 High School Girls Athlete of the Meet for Individual Events.  Ms. Tracey won the intermediate hurdles in 57.44, which was the 2nd fastest ever run at Penn.  She also ran a faster time than the college champion.  Congrats Nikita Tracey !

Another cool morning (52 degrees), but the wind has calmed down.
First heat — and overall championship — goes to William Wynne of Florida in 50.02. Not bad for 8:50 on a Friday morning!
