High School Boys 4×400 Championship

As an appetizer, we’ve got the Philadelphia Area race. Abington win in 3:18.54, with Chester second in 3:19.18. Results.
Next up is the Championship of America, featuring five teams from Jamaica and one each from Pennsylvania, Virginia and California.
St. Jago went wire-to-wire, holding off several challenges, to win in 3:12.55. Results.

High School Boys 4×800 Championship

Bellefield Comprehensive of Jamaica opened up an early lead, but by the second exchange Zach Vrohvac had put Albemarle in front. Sean Pohorence of Morris Hills moved into the lead for the last handoff. The highly anticipated high school championship will feature a number of great teams.  This year, we have only Altoona Area from Pennsylvania, and 8 high schools from our Caribbean friends.

It took 25 sections, but we have our first sub-3:20 of the day, Fordham Prep at 3:18.68.

High School Boys 400 Hurdles

Much nicer weather this morning, 56 degrees at 8:50 am, when our first running event, the high school boys 400H, goes off.
Jordan Rispress of Hilliard, Ohio, wins the first heat in 51.89, the eighth best time ever at the Relays.

After two straight victories by Eleanor Roosevelt of Maryland, we have a new champion. Holmwood Tech and Manchester dueled the whole way, but they forgot about Edwin Allen, whose anchor, Ristanna Tracey came on strong and passed her fellow Jamaicans less than 50 meters from the line for a 3:41.25 victory. High School Individual Distance

We have two individual events tonight before out high school girls 4×400 championship, the mile and the 3000m.
Jeremy Rae of Lakeshore (Ontario Canada) has opened up a very large lead at one lap, with an approximate half-mile split of 2:04.  At three laps, Rae still leads, but the field is definitely stalking the leader.

Joe Rosa of West Windsor Plainsboro North leads after the first exchange (3:07.4), with Cardinal O’Hara and Don Bosco close behind.

Boys High School Shot Put: Vena Sets Penn Record

Nicholas Vena of Morristown, NJ, absolutely destroyed the Penn Relays record in the boys high school shot put. Vena got the ball out 72 feet, 2-1/2 inches (22.01 meters), almost five feet better than the old mark, set in 1985 by J.J. Grant of Liverpool, NY (67-3/20.50).
